Evil Pa

Here Pa is tempting fate with those sandwiches he is devouring. Big Jake never takes "no" for an answer. Pa ended up sharing as was the wise decision! As one can imagine, Jake is Ma's dog, he just tolerates Pa. :)

Observation

The good Lord gives us talents. I have several, one of which is drawing from nature. Actually, this one is from a photo I took several years back. It is a Monarch Butterfly on a flower in Memphis at the Lichterman Nature Center.

The Autumn of 06, while sitting out in the front yard near dusk, I looked up and noticed that flying above were hoards of Monarchs overhead. I instantly realized that they were headed south, along their migration path to Mexico.

No, I didn't get photos as I was more enamoured with watching their flight.

This spring I planted a huge pot of dill. Growing ever so faithfully, I first noticed small caterpillars devouring them. What were these creatures that were partaking of my delicacies? As they grew, I realized they were Monarchs. After feasting on the dill, their yellow bands turned a lime green. Disappearing from active view after finishing the dill, I knew my dill had not gone to waste. Next year, I will plant more dill just to enjoy the evolution and propagation of the beautiful Monarch butterfly.

Jake and Me

The "bestest" ole friend ever. Weighing in at 126 pounds, a defender of faith and a kid at heart, who HATED bugs, and loved his Ma and Pa. Purchased in Germany as a pup, readied for his trip to the US, he was military trained, and accepted commands in German. His real name is Memphis von Frank to honor Elvis), but called Jake for John Wayne. When asked, "Wanna go riding?" He absolutely shudders, barks and gets his leash. This picture was taken on a trip we took to Washington.

Fweet Baby

Never have I had a dog like Fweet Baby. A true runt of the bunch but the pick of the litter, Fweet Baby was IT! You could see it in her mischievous play. She took the lead of the pack, getting all her siblings in trouble. A I lay down at night, she tooker position across my abdomen for a few loving strokes and then she would curl under my left arm, sleeping soundly until morning. She was too young to pass, just barely two years. We believe she was poisoned, not by someone, but by farm chemicals used here in the Delta. None of the other pups suffered, but Fweet Baby did like to roam and roam she did just after the chemical delivery trucks passed our house, she disappeared. Coming back later in the day, she looked a little tired from her exploits. The next morning she began to show signs of problems. After a quick trip to the vet, the diagnosis was unsure. Later that evening she passed. It broke my heart as I loved her dearly. I am just blessed to have had her.

I believe she will meet me at the Pearly Gates when my time comes...along with all my babies.

The Beaner

Rescued from the Gulf Coast following Katrina, this precious little "wiener", who initially was named Katrina, was brought home with another named Oscar. Both are red with white markings. We gave Katrina a new name, Teenie Beanie because of her smaller size. Pictured here as growing larger with pups, a total surpriae to us. Several of our additions have come to us PG. She's something else, a strong-willed personality, she rules the roost with all our big dogs. They know to get out of her way when she moves about. Loves her Pa and wants to be held and cuddled by her Ma. She doesn't take "No" when she wants in your lap and defends her children at all costs. A one of a kind without a doubt.

The Late and Great Mad Max

Truly a wonderful creature, Mad Max was 5 when he left us. He and his sister, Bumblebee Butterbean were found nearly starving to death and rescued. Max was in the worst shape. Dad brought them home and I immediately began giving him the baby electrolytes. They never left one another's side. They ran as most children do, playing, eating and chewing most anything in each other's path. When sitting in the garden room swing, they would jump up and lean into me. They loved leaning and getting love as most dogs do. I always wondered what would happen if one passed before the other. Would the other survive?
BB has survived and has more "brothers and sisters" than you could possibly imagine. She's fat and sassy, and rules the roost being the oldest now at 6. They looked nothing alike, but had the same mother. Her father, obviously was a "Beagle". Max, well Max was just Max and is sorely missed by me. Being our mascot and poster child for our website, which allowed dogs to stay in our hotel, Max was a true gent when his friends came to stay. Its amazing how animals know how to treat others as Guests...I suppose that is TRUE SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY!

Out and About

An English Staffordshire Pit...one of the most intelligent breed of dogs out there. Runs like a gazelle and enjoys the play of it. Found along a back country road, miles from any signs of life. Dumped in February, wet, cold and afraid of humans, he finally came to me as I began to walk away, crying outloud "MAMA, DON'T LEAVE ME!" I didn't!

Views of Delta Life

Wintertime presents some of the most beautiful sites in the Mississippi Delta. The trees laid bare of leaves, the fading sun drifts below the clouds to present a pinkish red tint.

As promised by knowledged newsmen, right at 5:52 pm, the International Space Station, could be seen transversing the heavens with the naked eye. That is the dot near the center of the photo. What do you expect out of a digital, at night, and a spacestation moving way past mach!!!

Babies are such a blessing...as is this one born in the morning hours of December 28th. Her mother, Roserita, was rescued from the middle of Hwy 49, at one of the busiest times of the day, in November, 2005. Had her mother not been rescued and adopted into this family, these precious babes (4) would not be here today. However, since we believe in Bob Barker's "theme" of Have Your Pet Spayed or Neutered," these will be too!

Greenery, just living the life of luxurious greenery.
